First Person: I was constantly doodling in my school books and making a mess and the teacher was always unhappy with me.–
Proiti Roy loves to sit at her desk - illustrating, surrounded by dogs she rescued, with a hot cup of tea.
Apart from picture books for children, Proiti Roy has illustrated text books, book covers and magazine features. Before becoming a full-time illustrator, she worked as a graphic designer in the advertising sector in India and Bangladesh. Her works have been published across the world.
Proiti’s books - some of which have been published by Tulika - are available in different languages. Her style is varied and done with consummate skill. She has also worked with handicrafts in recycled mediums and has taught art and craft to children in Kolkata for 12 years.
She lives in Shantiniketan, West Bengal, sharing her home with her daughter and 22 rescued dogs (not counting the street dogs and other distressed animals in the neighbourhood where she lives), because of which she cannot travel the world as much as she would love to.
