Sadiq loves stitching colourful patterns on rugs. However, his Ammi reminds him that boys in his community don’t stitch, they tend to the livestock. But Sadiq is determined to pursue his passion. This winsome tale that defies gender norms and talks about a fading shepherd craft of Kashmir, is beautifully written by Mamta Nainy, and illustrated through watercolour vistas by renowned artist Niloufer Wadia.
Mamta Nainy is a children’s writer based in New Delhi. She spent some years in advertising before an apple fell on her head while she was sitting under a mango tree, and she had her Eureka moment! She has been writing for children since then. She loves travelling but is too lazy to do it, so she mostly makes do with reading.
Niloufer Wadia started as a visualiser and was in advertising for over 20 years. She then took a sudden decision to leave and see if she could make a career of her first love, illustrations and painting. She did, and very successfully!
