Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Did you know that one in four people struggle with mental health problems in their lifetime? In India, suicide is the chief reason for death among the youth. In fact, a student commits suicide every hour. Nearly 40 per cent of female suicides occur here.

Why then is there so little conversation around mental health? Why do we choose to stay silent and not speak up for ourselves and for others around us?

Shelja Sen brings three decades of experience as a therapist to present and analyse the stories and wisdom of the people she has worked with. Weaving together the teachings of Buddhist Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh along with Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy, this is a compelling and crucial addition to the literature on mental health and self-care.

Nobody should be defined by darkness. This book is about standing up to the forces of shame, stigma and silence in mental health. And reclaiming the right to author our stories. It is a crucial read for caregivers and therapists who witness pain every day and are looking for creative approaches. If you are looking for more joy and meaning in your life, then this will be your companion.

Reclaim Your Life urges each one of us to own our courage and find our North Star.
